President Erickson visits the Fellows

Dr. Erickson took questions from each of the fellows during his visit. He was very sincere and answered a variety of questions from the scandal to what book would he recommend to read - "The creation of the future: the role of the American university" by Frank Rhodes. Afterwards the fellows toured the new Krause Innovation Lab with President Erickson and Dean Monk to be officially opened after spring break.

Bald Eagle Area Schools

The Fellows visited the Bald Eagle Area School located about 20 minutes from Penn State over the Bald Eagle Ridge mountains to the Bald Eagle Valley. The school district encompasses over 362 square miles, the second largest in the state of Pennsylvania. Recently renovated, the school now has solar energy and geothermal energy, new middle school, 1200 seat gymnasium,and a 70 seat all purpose room for use by the school and the local community. The fellows toured the elementary, middle and high school, visited a Math Power Teaching class, and hosted two 9th grade World Geography classes to discuss current events in the countries of the fellows.

Teach For America


Humphrey Fellows had the opportunity to ask questions about "Teach for America" during a skype session with a staff member from the NYC office after watching a YouTube video about the program. After this hour long session, Jackie Edmondson, Associate Dean, College of Education talked to the fellows about teacher certification in PA.
